Ken currently is chairman, Greater China of APCO Worldwide, a Washington-based public affairs consultancy. Before that, he was the U.S. consul general in Shanghai from July 2005 to August 2008. Previously, he served as deputy consul general in Hong Kong and as director of Asian Affairs in the National Security Council, the White House, Washington, D.C.

During his 26 year career in the U.S. Foreign Service, Ken also served as vice consul at the U.S. Embassy in Manila; political officer at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York; political officer in the State Department’s office of Chinese and Mongolian affairs; consul at the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu; chief of the political unit at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore; political officer in the State Department’s office of Israeli affairs and; deputy political counselor at the U.S. embassy in Beijing. He is a current board member of AmCham Shanghai and served as board chairman of the USA Pavilion during the Shanghai World Expo. He is also a member of the National Committee of US-China Relations.
